Crooked Brook Craft Brewery
Crooked Brook Beer Co. is a small craft brewery based locally in West Sussex. They came to us with a branding task to help them compete in the increasingly crowded artisan beer market; they needed an identity for the brewery as a whole, as well as a unique personality for their two latest hoppy masterpieces.
Craft beer is all the rage these days, (over)flowing out of taps and off supermarket shelves around the country. We knew we needed to create something for Crooked Brook that captured their distinctive voice, style and flavour. It needed to feel small batch and homely, but also professional and desirable. Whatever we created would also need to grow with the brewery, and flex to include new beers over time.
Because each Crooked Brook beer has its own unique blend, flavour, personality and name, we needed a creative solution that would allow all of this to shine through. We chose rich typography, with lots of heritage and character, to capture each of the beers names. Lovely key-line illustrations then lifted each sub-brand even more, landing all of those classic values of a night-out at the carnival, or watching smuggler’s cove action in a classic pirate film.
Most of Crooked Brook’s sales were through casks in pubs, but they also planned to start bottling too, so we made sure each brand design would look just as distinctive on a pump badge as a bottle label.
Our new identity helped Crooked Brook’s sales from going flat, and not long after our designs went live, the brewery began a successful expansion out of Sussex across the whole of the south of England, starring in pubs and at local festivals.
